A generous contribution by a CLAS alumnus, Alan Bennett, provides resources for projects in an area of priority for the CLAS Strategic Plan: Public Health Policy Research. We are pleased to present this call for proposals to advance the scholarship of CLAS faculty in this area during the 2024 fiscal year.
Funding for this opportunity in public health policy is available to individuals who are conducting research at a novel intersection of disciplines or to groups of faculty members working together to advance research stemming from a unique junction of their individual programs of scholarship. In either case, it is desirable for the research supported by this internal funding mechanism to lead to the submission of successful proposals for external funding. In the case of collaborative proposals, it is our hope that this funding mechanism will help to build new connections among CLAS scholars across units and career stages. Awardees targeting external funding may be eligible for a funded extension of up to one additional year if they meet their target to submit a grant, fellowship, or similar proposal to an external funder within the funding period of the award (i.e., by June 30, 2025).
Application Requirements
The lead investigator must be a full-time faculty member in CLAS, in either the tenure or CIRE systems. Individual or teams of faculty members should submit a document of no more than three pages that describes:
- what will be accomplished and the timeframe for the work,
- a description of how the work will advance scholarship in public health policy,
- outcomes anticipated, including any specific plans (e.g., anticipated funding program(s) and timetable) for submission of proposals for external funding, and
- a budget and rationale for the anticipated expenses.

Applications should be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on May 10, 2024, through the CLAS proposal submission portal.
A report of what was accomplished and its impact will be due to clas@uconn.edu by June 30, 2025, and any unspent funds will be returned to CLAS at that time.
Networking Event
To facilitate collaborative proposals, the College will host a networking and brainstorming session on Monday, March 25 from 12-1 p.m.
