Applying to Graduate
To participate in commencement, students must apply for graduation through the Student Administration System no later than the fourth week of the semester they hope to graduate. Students must also submit a plan of study for all majors/minors they are completing at the time of graduation.
Students eligible to participate in the May 2025 ceremonies are those who fulfill their degree requirements in the following terms:
- December 2024
- May 2025
- August 2025

Cap and Gown
Students are required to wear and cap and gown (regalia) to attend UConn Commencement. Regalia is available as follows:
- Storrs Campus: regalia available at the UConn Bookstore (you must have UConn ID or other valid form of ID).
- Regional Campus (or those who are no longer located in Storrs): regalia can be ordered online and mailed to you or obtained at your regional bookstore. Please visit the Student Preparation section of the UConn Commencement website for instructions on how to place the order.
Note: No cords will be distributed by CLAS.
Double Majors and Dual Degrees
Graduating CLAS students must participate in the ceremony of their primary major. Information about your primary major is listed in Student Admin.
Name Reading
Graduating CLAS students will have their names read during the ceremony. Each graduating student must complete a name reader/photography information card at the pre-ceremony line-up location (Field House). Staff will be present to distribute cards and pencils at this location. Candidates must carry the card with them for the ceremony.
Seating and Mobility Accommodations
Guest accommodations do not need to be arranged in advance. For more information, please visit the Directions & Parking and Guest Accommodations pages on the UConn Commencement website. Note that accessible seating is available on a first-come first-served basis, and only one member of your guest party will be able to sit with the guest requiring an accommodation.
Graduating students who require an accommodation should contact clas_commencement@uconn.edu.
Security
All graduating students will pass through a metal detector. Prohibited items include alcohol, weapons of any kind, outside food and beverages, backpacks, noise makers, laser pointers, and bags larger than 12x6x12.
Tickets
Each graduating CLAS student has been allocated eight guests tickets. CLAS is unable to provide any additional tickets to any student. If you require additional tickets, please ask other graduating seniors who do not plan to use all of their tickets.
The Ticket Desk is located on the 2nd floor of the Storrs Bookstore (Community Room). If you are unable to come to the Storrs campus, tickets can be mailed to you. Please visit the Student Preparation section of the University’s Commencement website for instructions. The deadline to request tickets be mailed is 12 p.m. (noon) on April 24, 2025.
Only the graduating student may pick up their guest tickets or request that their tickets be mailed.
