Students compete in the Science Bowl

Middle school science students from Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts will race hydrogen fuel cell cars and compete in an academic battle of wits at the Southern New England Middle School Science Bowl at UConn on March 28.

Twenty schools will send teams of students to the all-day event, which includes a quiz bowl to test students' knowledge of science and the car race.

The fuel cell car race will take place at Hawley Armory on the Storrs campus. The preliminary rounds are at 10 a.m., and the two top cars will compete at 1 p.m.

The quiz bowl will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the final round at 4:15 p.m.

The winners in each category will go to the national competition in Washington, D.C., in May.

The regional bowl is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, Travelers Insurance, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at UConn, and its Chemistry Outreach Program.
