CLAS Scholarships2009-2010 ScholarshipsAlan Mintz Communications Award : For a CLAS undergraduate with an interest in a career in the communications field. Preference will be given to students majoring in Communications, English, or Psychology. Arwood S. and Mary Northby Scholarship : For an entering freshman in CLAS majoring in mathematics. Preference will be given to female applicants. Covenant Insurance Company Summer Fellowship : For a CLAS graduate student with past academic achievement and demonstrated potential for future academic and professional accomplishments. Crane Fund for Widows and Children : For a CLAS undergraduate or graduate student who meets at least one of the following criteria: 1) For needy and deserving widows and children of men who, at their death, have left their widows and children without adequate means of support. 2) For deserving wives and/or children of men upon whom they are dependent for support but, because of age or other disability, are unable or, for other reason, fail or neglect to adequately support their respective wives and/or children. Dr. Patrick E. Fontane Memorial Scholarship : For a graduating pre-medical student in CLAS who has been accepted by an accredited medical school (for an M.D.) in the continental United States . Candidates must have been undergraduates at UConn for a minimum of two years. Preference will be given to male candidates, and first priority will be given to candidates who attended the Waterbury branch of UConn, or who are from Waterbury , CT. Dr. Victor Rizza Scholarship : For an entering freshman in CLAS who has declared either Chemistry or Biology as their major. Candidates must be in-state residents of Connecticut . Fleur and Jerry Lawrence Endowed Scholarship in International Relations and Human Rights : For a CLAS undergraduate studying international relations and/or human rights. Fred and Kathleen Otter Scholarship : For an academically outstanding CLAS graduate or undergraduate student who has demonstrated financial need. Greenblatt Undergraduate Research Award : For a CLAS undergraduate who has demonstrated high academic achievement and who has a demonstrated interest in conducting academic research in the area of United States race relations, United States civil rights, or United States human rights. Life Sciences Scholarship : For a CLAS undergraduate majoring in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Molecular and Cell Biology, or Physiology and Neurobiology who has demonstrated high academic achievement. Linda Louro Petrella '78 Endowed Scholarship : For a CLAS graduate or undergraduate student who is enrolled in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated financial need and/or are of Portuguese descent. Paul J. Volpe '67 Award : For a CLAS undergraduate honors student who is an in-state resident of Connecticut and a U.S. citizen. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated financial need. Robert F. and Margaret Dodge Belden Scholarship : For a CLAS graduate or undergraduate student with excellent past academic achievement, potential for future academic and professional accomplishments, and who has demonstrated financial need. The Christine Witzel Award : For an academically promising undergraduate or graduate student in CLAS who is recommended by a faculty member associated with the Center for Health, Intervention and Prevention (CHIP) and who submits a three-to-five page pre-proposal describing an innovative research project in women's health issues. |
