Biography

Ross MacKinnon has been dean of CLAS since June 1996. Prior to joining UConn, he was dean of social sciences at the State University of New York at Buffalo . A geographer, his research and teaching interests are economic, urban, and transportation geography; migration and spatial job search models; and quantitative methods. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of British Columbia and a master's degree and PhD from Northwestern University .

He began his academic career at the University of Toronto , where became an associate professor of geography. He was a research scholar at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Laxenburg , Austria , and professor and chair of geography at SUNY Buffalo. He was associate director of the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis at the time he was dean of social sciences at SUNY. He is formerly editor-in-chief of the journal Geographical Analysis .
