Two CLAS students, Ryan McHardy and Jana Lanza, have been elected the new president and vice president of the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) for the 2007-2008 school year.
"We are very excited to get to serve and contribute to the University community," said McHardy, who came to UConn from Bentonville , Ariz. "It's a great time to be a student here and we are excited to represent them."
McHardy and Lanza, both political science majors, CLAS '08, plan on making changes to the University while in office. They hope to increase student involvement in organizations and increase the communication between USG and the student body by creating a press secretary position. The press secretary will hear suggestions from students and then will communicate them directly to USG.
"I plan on meeting with the different organizations on campus in order to discuss how USG can improve and better represent their needs," said Lanza, who is from Southington , Conn. McHardy and Lanza will begin working in the USG office during the summer where they will begin organizing their plans for the 2007-2008 academic year. - Karen McCormick
