Time Traveling

Reporter Josh Gleason and producer Sarah Koenig interview physics professor Ron Mallett.

Physics professor Ron Mallett was 11 years old when his father died. His child's wish to go back in time and stop that event led him to obtain a PhD in physics and to develop an experiment to test the possibility of time travel. As theoretical physicist Bryce DeWitt told him at a conference, "Your father would be proud of you."

Ira Glass, host of This American Life on National Public Radio, introduces Ron's story with the comment, "When the plan you invented for yourself at 11 years old ends up dominating your life." Reporter Josh Gleason's interview with Ron can be heard in the second segment of the TAL show, "My Brilliant Plan," which aired on many NPR stations on January 27.
