College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

CLAS is the largest college at UConn, with more than 600 faculty and an enrollment of 56 percent of UConn students. CLAS students receive most of the PhDs granted at UConn. The College offers nearly 50 fields of study in 23 academic departments and many interdisciplinary programs.

As the academic core of the University, CLAS seeks to provide a liberal arts and sciences education that ranks among the best in the nation. By creating and disseminating knowledge in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences, CLAS helps students acquire the skills and knowledge to become independent thinkers, lifelong learners, and responsible citizens.

Dean Ross D. MacKinnon: 12 years leading CLAS
Friends will gather on Wed., April 23, for Ross MacKinnon’s retirement reception. During his 12-year tenure, CLAS has added new buildings and new endowed chairs and has cultivated the interdisciplinary study of health behavior, human rights, the humanities, and more.

Dean named for CLAS
Jeremy Teitelbaum, a mathematician and senior administrator in the liberal arts and sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago, will be the new dean of CLAS, following the retirement of Dean Ross D. MacKinnon.
