Robert A. Gross
James L. and Shirley A. Draper Professor of Early American History
Robert Gross came to UConn in 2003 as the first Draper Chair of Early American History. A native of Bridgeport , he has also taught at Amherst College , the University of Sussex , and the College of William and Mary. His first book on the American Revolution, The Minutemen and Their World , won the Bancroft Prize in American History. He is now writing The Transcendentalists and Their World , a history of Emerson and Thoreau and the Concord , Mass. , community. He is an Organization of American Historians Distinguished Lecturer.
