Long-Time Professor Thomas A. Suits Dies at Age 83

memoriamThomas A. Suits, 83, long-time Professor of Classics in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, died on December 31, 2016 in Beachwood, Ohio.

Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wis., Suits earned his master’s degree and Ph.D. in classics from Yale University. He taught for eight years at Columbia University before arriving at the University of Connecticut, where he remained for the duration of his career.

In addition to being very involved in University activities, Suits was extremely active in his church community. He served as a deacon, as a clerk, and as chair of the church council, and he also helped raise funds for various building improvements to increase accessibility.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Alice-Mae Suits; his children, Elizabeth (Stephen) and William (Amy); his sister, Sandra (Richard); and two grandchildren.
